Floor Impact Testing (Tapping Test)
Floor Impact Insulation Testing
Floor impact insulation is the ability of the floor to control noise from impact events on a floor (usually a hard floor). These impacts can create intrusive noise for lower noise sensitive and are managed though the National Construction Code or building by-laws. To ensure compliance with these requirements floor impact testing is often required. These tests are to ISO and ASTM standards using calibrated instruments.
Palmer as have carried out these tests for the last 30 years and is now a leading consultant in Queensland for floor impact testing and advice on impact noise for hard floor surfaces. These tests usually take no more than 1 hour on site and require access to the lower noise sensitive area. These tests are carried out in accordance with ISO and Australia Standard test procedures and are often a requirement set by a buildings Body Corporate.
Floor Transmission Loss Testing
The National Construction Code (NCC or BCA) sets minimum standards for sound isolation between apartments in residential dwellings. These rating reflect the ability of a wall or floor to isolation airborne noise from two areas either vertically or horizontally. This testing to ISO and Australian standards required that a test sound be generated and measured in one room with the sound received in an adjacent area being measured. Through consideration of the room’s properties the room-to-room sound isolation can be calculated.
Palmer Acoustics is available to carry these tests and provide reports as necessary showing compliance (or otherwise) with specified levels of sound isolation. The test usually takes around 1 ½ hours on site and require access to both sides of the wall or floor being tested.
